Laying to rest my Style Icon

My first designer anything was Kate Spade when I was 9 or so years old. My cousin had moved to New York and when she came back to visit that is what she had brought me. I can still picture it so clearly in my head it was beautiful, it was hot pink with yellow and lime green stripes. All those years ago my love for Kate Spade first started to blossom and unfortunately for my wallet, it has yet to end. Kate Spade's designs inspired beauty in the fashion world that had never been seen quite like that before. Her collections brought joy into a world that so desperately needs it.

When I was little I wanted to be the next Kate Spade with her spontaneous circles and color-blocked stripes there was nothing that I thought could be happier. Her designs brought young women all around the world to adulthood without being scared of color. As time went on trends changed, but Kate Spade has stayed true to its mission of bringing bright colors and more joy into the world. Look inside every box, behind every bracelet, in every purse... there is love, joy, and a message meant to inspire. My favorite that was inscribed in one of my purses was to live life colorfully. Why would I want to live it any other way?

In 1986, she worked in the accessories department of Mademoiselle in Manhattan. She left Mademoiselle in 1991, with the title of senior fashion edition of accessories. She left Mademoiselle in 1991 because she noticed there were no sensible and stylish handbags in the fashion industry and so she decided she needed to start creating her own. Kate Spade and her husband Andy started the famous handbag company in January 1993, naming it “Kate Spade handbags”. As the name original name implies the company got its start by selling only handbags and has now grown into selling clothing, jewelry, shoes, stationery, eyewear, baby items, fragrances, tabletop, bedding and gifts, and more. Kate Spade, herself, left the company in 2006 but they continued to do her colorful and daring work falling in her footsteps. Coach bought the company a little over a year ago and as a Kate Spade fanatic I am sorely disappointed and fear the worst. I will always remember Kate Spade for her bright and joyful accessories and I know her name will live on in the fashion world forever.

At 9 years old Kate Spade made a mark on me and 11 years later her designs still have an impact on me. I am saddened by the passing of such a beautiful designer.

The beautiful little girl in the last picture is my cousin's daughter with her first Kate Spade from "nana", as she calls me. I absolutely thought it was a great accessory for the pink fireman hat. I chose to share the joy that Kate Spade brought me all those years ago, who knows maybe she'll be writing a little bog about fashion and have a story like this one day too.

Let me leave you whit one parting thing.....Live life in COLOR and live it fully.
