The Royal Wedding
To be frank, the looks for this royal wedding astounded me. There was so much simplicity, and to me, that is the essence of style and class. The looks this year were great confirmation of current trends, and I think part of that is in the fact that it is not the third heir in line to the throne. The hats this year were impeccable, and to plan an outfit around a hat in the way that many of the celebrity guests did is astounding.
The word most frequently used to describe this wedding is modern, and it is absolutely true. Many traditions were kept in great British fashion, but as I mentioned earlier, this wedding could be more modern since Harry had less pressure being that he is the sixth heir to the British throne. This wedding has a modern feel not only with the fashions seen but with the guest list and the seating arrangement in which celebrities and British nobility mix in the crowd. This wedding also has a largely modern feel because Harry and Meghan chose to keep the late Princess Diana alive in their hearts, and as we well know, Diana was a large part of the modernization of the monarchy. There has been a lot of talk about this finally being the end of Harry being seen as the 12-year old who walked behind his mother Diana's casket all those years ago. Today is seen as such a happy day because to many people, the little, 12-year old boy is finally getting the happy ending he deserves.
The Fashion:
Many people were expecting the outlandish hats of Princess Beatrice and Euginie from Kate and William's Royal wedding back in 2011. Thankfully, these two went much more conservative this time around, and they look beautiful.
The favorite look of the day is Amal Cloney's simple canary yellow dress and matching hat. The dress is very simple but striking, especially against Amal's perfectly curled, dark brown hair. This dress is designed by Stella McCartney, who was also rumored for some time to be designing Meaghan's dress.
While Pippa's dress was not as striking as the first royal wedding-I don't think anything could ever be quite like that-it was still a very cute dress. Here is a reminder of that incredible dress, next to her dress of choice for this wedding. It is rumored she chose an A-line style dress because she is expecting her first child with now-husband, James Matthew.
Serena Williams and Oprah Winfery both chose to wear a blush pink, which has become a classic color for weddings. Personally I was not a fan of either of these looks, mostly due to their choice of hats. Here are pictures of their looks.
David and Victoria Beckham looked stylish as always. Victoria wore all black and added a pop of color with fantastic pointed toe heels. She also chose to wear a small, simple hat. This look was also very modern.
Several of Meghan's "Suits" co-stars were in attendance at the wedding. From left: Abigail Spencer (my favorite) in Alessandra Rich, Priyanka Chopra in Vivienne Westwood, Patrick J Amams, and Gabriel Macht. Both the women's looks were among my favorite, as they were modern but gave homage to the traditional British style.
The Family:
The mother of the bride chose a very simple, pale green color and small, modest hat. Her hat had an adorable little bow in the back.
I enjoyed Camilla's dress, which was also blush pink and looked a little bit like a jacket with the small lapel collars. I did not, however, like her hat; it was too much in my opinion and not at all attractive.
The Queen wore a very bright yellow jacket atop her yellow, gray, and purple dress. She is also wearing a purple flower atop her hat. This look is shocking for the Queen due to the fact that she always steps out in one monochromatic color so that she can be easily spotted, not only by the public but also by her security detail.
Kate as always looked like a classic breath of fresh air. She was absolutely stunning, and how incredible that she looks like that after having her third child only three weeks ago. She is such style icon, and I for one, certainly have a woman crush.
The Bridesmaids and Page Boys looked absolutely adorable, as they are all between the ages of 2 and 7.
And of course everyone's favorite bridesmaid and page boy Prince George and Princes Charlotte. I think sweet Princess Charlotte has the royal wave down.
Meghan Markle chose to wear a simple and elegant dress and looked absolutely stunning. Her dress was designed by Givenchy. Meghan chose to be independent and walk herself down the aisle until met halfway by Prince Charles. The sheer joy on Harry's face as he first saw her was so sweet.
Meaghan chose to wear a dress that had a boatneck collar, 3/4 sleeves, and and empire waist with a lovely flowing train. She wore her hair up in a low bun with a long veil and a large, diamond-encrusted tiara.
We cannot forget about Harry, who wore his British Army Dress. It should also be noted that Harry and William both wore their major ranks making them them equal standing next to each other today.
Here's to us all one day finding a price of our own to marry and feel like a princess one day!
