To the Class of 2023

Updated: Aug 31, 2019

To all the bright eyed bushy tailed freshman staring college this week...enjoy every second of the next four years because it goes by I the blink of an eye. I was right were you are three years ago and trust me I have no idea where the time went. I do not have all the answer, but after three years I'd like to think I could offer a few pieces of advice.

1. It is okay to take a personal day if you need it - you are your first priority.

2. If you are not a morning person, don't take the 8 am. Do not kid yourself this isn't high school you will not get up. If you absolutely have to like me senior year--good luck.

3. If you aren't happy with your major, CHANGE it! There is nothing wrong with changing your major. Find something you are passionate about and pursue it.

4. Just don't procrastinate because you think it'll all work out in the end-- you won't sleep and it wont be a pretty picture for anyone.

5. Get to know your professor and make sure they know who you are, when you have a professional relationship with them they are more likely to help you.

6. You are going to miss people you have only known for six months when you go home from Christmas break more than you missed people you've known for years. It feels weird but it's definitely normal.

7. The attendance policy is no joke, it can kill your grade so go to class and save up your skip days for when you actually need them.

8. Do not think going home is lame, free laundry and food is cool.

9. Call your parents every once in a while, they miss you more than you think.

10. Don't burn bridges with your old friends.

11. Always find a friend in each of your classes in case you need to know what you missed.

12. It is okay to only be friends with someone for one semester, college is a time of growth.

13. Don't be afraid to change, sometimes it's hard but college is a great place to figure out who you are and who you hope to be.

14. Stay in touch with a few of your favorite professors because they can eventually write you great letters of recommendation.

15. Find clubs that align with your interest and join! Meet as many people as you can.

16. Carry an extra set of phone and computer chargers on you -- you never known when something will die on you. {Also if you let someone borrow them remember to get them back or they'll be gone forever}

17. If you're running late make sure your wearing comfortable shoes--heels not great for that one.

18. Start studying for finals the week before so you aren't dying during finals week.

19. Make sure your backpack is packed the night before in case you have to run out the next morning.

20. The only social pyramid that matters in college is you're s freshman so just Go ahead and embrace that.

21. Always make sure you know where your classes are so you're not running around lost.

22. Make sure you over commit yourself.

23. Most importantly enjoy senior year and know we are all rating for you!!

So, here's to always remembering to keep one foot in front of the other, and your heels as high as your standards...xoxo Suzanna Rita
