From New York with {LOVE}

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

Valentine's Day, or Singles Awareness Day as I so affectionately call it, has always been the most interesting of the Hallmark holidays. We can all agree it's a bit of a BS holiday that Hallmark made up to sell more cards right? So, then why do we continue to make it so incredibly important. I mean we buy flowers, balloons, cards, chocolates, jewelry, stuffed animals, and all kinds of other things. In 23 years I've not had a single Valentine date, well unless you count a middle school supervised movie date, and yet even I love to celebrate Valentine's Day. Why? Because at the end of the day we all love to feel loved and appreciated. Even if you don't have a significant other to share the day with you can still celebrate and remind your friends and family how much you love them.

This year I got to spend Valentine's weekend in New York with one of my best friends! I couldn't think of a better weekend of love than in the city I love with a girl who brings so much light and joy into the world. I can definitely say it was my favorite Valentine's weekend. I started the weekend with a whirlwind of travel from plane to train to car. I was definitely exhausted from a full day of travel.

When we woke up Saturday we went to Katharina's favorite diner in her little town of Highland falls and then we rode the train into the city. We took the train into Grand Central Station, and I promise you there is nothing quite like walking into Grand Central. Every time I walk in I cannot help but be stunned by its beauty. We went to the original Kate Spade store on Broome St., Kate Spade lived in an apartment above that first store and I think that's what makes that store so magical to me. Katharina and I walked in dressed up like Cupid's newest recruits. Coordinating in pink and red, and somehow we continued that trend the entire weekend. We took pictures in the Kate Spade store, and I may or may not have bought my 32nd Kate Spade purse in honor of my 23rd birthday coming up next week. We went inside Aerie and some of the girls were so impressed they asked if they could put us on their Instagram. Then we had our little Valentine's Day dinner and went to an all-pink restaurant called Pietro Nolita and called it a night.

When we woke up on Valentine's Day we were so exhausted from our adventures in the city we decided to have a slower-paced day. We ended up organizing some and grocery shopping. We made heart-shaped pizzas, chocolate-covered strawberries, drank some wine, and finished the latest installment of To All the Boys I've Loved. Yes, I did cry during the movie it was beautiful and I loved it.

My last day we spent in the city, goofing off and enjoying New York as any young 20 something in New York would do in a cheesy movie montage. We went to Magnolia Bakery, and of course another Kate Spade store. I didn't buy anything this time I promise, but I did get to have lots of interesting conversations with my new friends at Kate Spade and who knows ... maybe I'll be working with or for Kate Spade soon - that's a secret I'll never tell xoxo.

Valentine's Day isn't always a person giving you roses and chocolate or someone that makes your heart flutter.. sometimes it's the city you love and heart-shaped pizzas with your best friend. Here's to finding love in beautiful and unexpected places this year. Till next time New York, you have my love and I hope you send me your best.

So, here's to always remembering to keep one foot in front of the other, and your heels as high as your standards...xoxo Suzanna Rita
