Today is one of my oldest friends 21st birthdays. That being said, I find it fitting to share 21 things about friendship that I have learned over the years. So, I hope you have a very very Happy Birthday Caroline!
1. Friendships, like any relationship, take hard work.
2. You are allowed to have more than one “best friend”, who cares what the rite is as long as they’re there for you.
3. It is okay to step back and reevaluate a friendship.
4. It’s okay to take a break from a friendship for a little bit.
5. Celebrate special moments in your friendship, whether that be birthdays or friend-
6. Be true to your authentic self.
7. Learn their love language...and show them love like that.
8. It is okay to argue and share your feelings-actually sharing your feelings is key.
9. You don’t have to talk every second of every day for the friendship to mean something.
10. Understand that people aren’t perfect and you might get let down sometimes.
11. It’s not worth it to surround yourself with people who don’t you joy.
12. Take trips together.
13. Make sure they know they are appreciated and that you value your friendship.
14. It’s not worth it to cut them off for a boy — TRUST ME.
15. When you can’t talk all the time keep a running list of what’s happening in your life so you can update them.
16. Don’t let distance be the end of your friendship.
17. Don’t get jealous if they have other friends-were all allowed to have lots of friends. It’s healthy.
18. Even when you and a friend grow apart, root for them and wish them the best.
19. Reach out to old friend you haven't heard from in a while.
20. Be each others biggest fans!
21. Give hugs, love hard, laugh often, and enjoy each other.
My favorite bible verse reminds me what it means to be a true friend:
For he who fears God behaves accordingly, and his friend will be like himself."
~Sirach 6:14-17
