Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there, but especially to mine because he's quite the dad. From Mr. Fix it, to grill master (and master of the kitchen), to mr. mom he can do it all.
Currently his favorite joke:
Daddy: "I love barre, don't you?"
Me: "yes it's such a great work out blah blah blah..*goes on for 10 minutes"
Daddy: "Ohhhhh yea no I meant the breakfast bar" *dies laughing at his own joke*
Dads are pretty special, you usually grow up thinking they are your Prince Charming and then you become a teenager and you're not Daddy's little girl anymore.
My dad, he is pretty incredible. When I was little he came home from work and played barbies with me for hours and then when he tucked me in every nigh he read me "Babes in Toy Land". We read it so many times we memorized every word and could say it to each other from memory. When my dad came home from work I used to wait at the top of the stairs and jump to him as soon as he walked though the door, he was alway ready to catch me. (Little side note, when I was 2 I got so excited when he was coming home that I started squirming and pushed the screen out of the window and fell out...explains a lot I know.) My dad was always willing to catch me then and he certainly never stopped. Now he's not quite catching me flying through the air, more catching me before I fall and helping me regain my balance. When I fell head over heels in love senior year of high school he stood by and told me to "guard [my] heart, for it is the wellspring of life"; and when my heart was shattered freshman year of college he took my calls at 3 am and somehow deciphered what I was trying to say thought my tears. When I felt defeated and alone he helped me find my faith. When I had girl problems and found no solution to the never ending drama he listened and gave more advice-some useful, some not so much. He always takes selfies with me no matter how annoying he thinks they are. He takes me shooting, while of course making fun of how much I love to shoot and that I wear pink every time. He drives 30 minutes to buy me ice cream because I'm so picky and particular. Best of all he supports me no matter what it is I decide to do next, because trust me there is always something.
We aren't perfect, never have been, never will be. We fight and go through periods of not talking because of something stupid the other said, but at the end of the day he has my back.
So, thank you daddy for all that you do. Thank you for raising me to be who I am and not being afraid to show it. Thank you for showing me how to build and fix things so I never feel helpless. Thank you for the four hour phone calls when I don't feel like doing homework. Thank you for letting me spend too much of your money on clothes and not getting too super angry about it. Most importantly, thank you for being my Daddy.
"Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life." ~ Proverbs 4:23
